Hangleton Youth Band
There are currently approximately 60 members in the Hangleton Youth Band, including a learners group. Players range from 8-year old complete beginners to 19-year old grade 8 musicians.
The policy of the Hangleton Youth Band is to provide an instrument and tuition for any child who wants to learn, giving them the opportunity to participate in a friendly, fun music group without the cost of having to buy an instrument (which can be very expensive, sometimes costing up to several thousand pounds!)
The band is funded from the proceeds of our concerts and other engagements, in combination with a weekly subscription paid by all members (discounts are available for multiple siblings).
The Youth Band put on their own concert each summer, and carry out several other engagements throughout the year. Twice a year at our Annual Summer and Christmas Concerts the Youth Band join forces with the Senior band for a special massed performance usually involving approximately 80 players!
The band is conducted by Richard Baker, a local music teacher. Richard is assisted by a team of other adults who give up their time to teach the learners and assist during rehearsals.
The Hangleton Band takes the issue of child protection very seriously, and so all adults involved with Youth Band are CRB checked and we have a dedicated child protection policy in line with national guidelines.
The Youth Band rehearse every friday during school term time between 6pm and 7:30pm at Hangleton Junior School Hall. You can find a map of our rehearsal venue here.
